Sigma Iota Delta MULTICULTURAL Sorority

Our history is an important part of building our family. Our history has years of sisterhood, friendships, achievements and memories. It's what makes us, us. In 1993, 3 close friends wanted more out of their academic college career. They contemplated joining a sorority on campus, but could not find one that fit their idea of "sisterhood". On December 3, 1993, Sigma Iota Delta was founded, a local sorority on campus at The College of Staten Island. SID, as it was called remained strong for 3 years, until after much contemplation the members felt they needed more. More representation, more benefits, and a different scene. The members decided to move to a National sorority, and after a year of deliberting, they chose Phi Sigma Sigma. We were inducted in Jan of 1997, as the Theta Phi chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma with 25 members. Phi Sig struggled in the beginning with adapting to their new family, with financial costs of being national, the requirements, rules and regulations.Membership recruitment was more difficult as well as there was a different processes and guidelines to RUSH, now that we were a national sorority. In addition, CSI doesn't recognize national fraternities or sororities so Phi Sig had to go through loop holes to recruit on campus or even hold campus activites. This lead us to mark ourselves as the Theta Phi Club on campus, but regardless we still wore our letters proudly. For about 7 years, Phi Sigma Sigma remained on campus strong and proud even with all the struggles of the ever changing National Greek Scene. As time went on, Members graduated, transferred schools or left for personal reasons. Recruitment was harder, dues were increased and times changed. Things began to become more complicated on campus and the current members had a decision to make. The choice was difficult, and in turn out of the members hands, so in 2005 we were back to our local routes, Sigma Iota Delta. We are still known on campus as the theta phi club, and we still hold our history and letters close to our heart. This is where we began, its good to be home.
